Our section on space physics and space weather is focused on understanding the dynamical evolution of the hazardous space radiation environment and developing predictive tools using satellite observations, physics-based models, machine learning, and data assimilation. Our goal is to support satellite safety, ground network maintenance, and bridge theoretical studies with practical applications.

The project "Waves in the Inner-magnetosphere and their Effects on Radiation belt Electrons" (WIRE), funded by the European Research Council, runs from 2024 to 2029. It combines satellite data and simulations to study plasma waves' impact on radiation belt electrons.

Your responsibilities:

• Develop scientific codes for satellite data processing
• Maintain data and code repositories
• Investigate and improve codes related to wave effects on radiation belt electrons
• Document and test existing codes
• Conduct scientific research in space physics
• Publish research findings in peer-reviewed journals
• Present at conferences
• Write proposals for future projects

Minimum qualifications:

• Master's and PhD in Space Physics or related fields
• Experience with IT/scientific programming and Unix systems
• Proficiency in Matlab and/or Python or IDL
• Basic knowledge of Fortran and C++
• Experience analyzing satellite data
• Ability to handle large datasets
• Teamwork and communication skills
• Attention to detail and organization
