Job Description for Buyer at SMS group S.p.A.

SMS group S.p.A., part of the German SMS group, is a leading manufacturer of plants and machinery in the steelmaking and non-ferrous materials industry. With over 500 employees across Tarcento (Udine), San Donato Milanese (Milan), and Genoa, we specialize in innovative, turn-key plants including hot and cold rolling mills, process lines, reheating furnaces, heat treatment lines, meltshops, and continuous casting machines.

We are seeking a Buyer to join our Global Support Function Supply Chain Management within SCX Supply Chain Service Solutions. The successful candidate will be responsible for:

1. Ensuring procurement of machines, materials, and services from qualified suppliers, adhering to technical specifications, costs, and delivery timelines.
2. Conducting market research for various materials and services, reporting potential alternative sources.
3. Processing purchase orders from approval to dispatch, monitoring progress, and ensuring contractual compliance through reminders.
4. Managing litigation relations with suppliers.
5. Participating in qualification visits for new suppliers.

Qualifications include:

• An engineering degree or a high school diploma in technical subjects.
• Previous experience in engineering or purchasing departments within engineering companies.
• Knowledge of SAP software is preferred but not essential.
• Excellent English language skills.
