Job Description

Who We Are

Noveria Energie GmbH has been developing a portfolio of large-scale battery energy storage (BESS) facilities in Germany since 2023. We believe that a successful energy transition depends on BESS. We focus on engaging local communities, landowners, and municipalities early, combining deep industry expertise, an efficient structure, and strong financial backing to deliver BESS effectively. Noveria is based in Baden-Württemberg, Germany, with support from our Dublin, Ireland office. It is a portfolio company of Bluestar Energy Capital, which provides development funding as we scale.

Bluestar is a global leader in project development capital for renewable energy, aiming to be one of the largest investors in storage, wind, and solar projects worldwide. Headquartered in Chicago, USA, Bluestar offers institutional-scale investment, deep expertise, and a commitment to empowering local teams. Owned by a management team with extensive global experience in wind, solar, and storage, Bluestar manages project and market risks with attention to detail, patience, and creativity, investing at the scale necessary to drive the energy transition.

About the Role

The Project Developer will lead the advancement of BESS projects from initial to late-stage development. You should thrive in a dynamic, collaborative environment, working with both external and internal stakeholders to progress projects through their development lifecycle.

  • Support the identification and evaluation of project sites, considering permitting regimes and their impact on project success.
  • Act as the knowledge centre for permitting within the business, staying updated on industry developments through workshops and market research. Maintain an overview of all prospects' permitting stages and coordinate with management to align project timelines.
  • Prepare materials for landowners and grid operators, including GIS maps, SLDs, and data sheets. Ability to quickly learn Noveria's development tools and strong IT skills are essential.
  • Manage external planning offices to streamline permitting and control costs.
  • Work with teams to finalize land option agreements.
  • Engage with local municipalities and act as the face of Noveria in presentations to municipal committees and community groups to build trust and de-risk permitting.
  • Support new projects with schedules, checklists, budgets, and tracking tools.
  • Apply critical thinking and problem-solving skills to address project challenges promptly.

This is a permanent role with a hybrid working arrangement, requiring presence in the Freiburg office at least 2 days per month.

About You

You have proven experience supporting renewable energy projects in Germany, especially in permitting and community engagement.

  • At least 2 years of relevant experience in renewable energy project development, environmental consulting, or government permitting.
  • Experience managing the permitting process for 5+ projects in Germany.
  • Knowledge of planning regimes for BESS in Germany, including privilege concepts, B-Plan and Flächennutzungsplan amendments, BImSchG, and Planfeststellungsverfahren.
  • Fluent German language skills and at least B2 level English.
  • Bachelor's degree in environmental, renewable energy, engineering, or related fields.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and delegate tasks effectively.
  • Willingness to travel up to 25% and possess a valid driver’s license for fieldwork.

We value diversity and inclusion. Even if you don’t meet all qualifications, we encourage you to apply.
