Job Description:

The Innovation & Engineering vision is to develop novel end-to-end process-centric and sustainable infrastructure concepts, striving to meet or even exceed current True North. The team is working against ambitious targets concerning All-in TPH, VCPP, space efficiency (shipments per sqm / cbm) and embodied carbon. The team consolidates SMEs to cover complex tasks concerning yard, MHE, UTR processes, container design and sustainability. Responsibilities include designing Yard and UTR infrastructure concepts, governing new builds or retrofits from Building Requirements Sheet to Design Reviews, developing functional requirements with ACES and WWDE, and supporting Procurement for vendor selection. Collaboration with NASC Engineering involves designing Middle Mile Nodes using infrastructural models derived from analytical work.
This blue-sky role offers the chance to analyze large data sets to build simulations, optimization algorithms, and leverage Amazon technologies. It’s an opportunity to innovate and solve challenging problems for customers.
As a Simulation Engineer, you will be an analytical problem solver who enjoys working with data from various businesses, investigating algorithms, multi-tasking, and interfacing with scientists, engineers, and stakeholders. Your ability to synthesize and communicate insights will help answer business questions and foster innovation. You will apply design methodologies for complex use cases across Amazon’s Middle Mile network and contribute to the simulation and experimentation vision for future Sort Centers.

The role is based in Germany, with 10% travel across European Middle Mile Nodes and offices, mainly working from the assigned office.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Design, develop, and simulate solutions for yard and material handling challenges considering human/equipment interactions
  • Lead simulation efforts for optimal solutions involving equipment, flow, process, ergonomics, and layout
  • Work with diverse customer groups to solve business problems with clear data solutions
  • Collaborate with SMEs to analyze simulation results
  • Design experiments, run simulations, and communicate results to technical and non-technical audiences
  • Develop and maintain simulation standards and reports
  • Create models and run scenarios to find optimal solutions
  • Ensure detailed documentation and standard operating procedures
  • Manage multiple projects, influencing and negotiating effectively
  • Conduct post-implementation reviews of simulations in partnership with Safety and Operations

A day in the life

Start with inbound vehicle and volume profiles, creating process-centric designs. Model business cases through simulations, validate concepts with experts, and produce reports with recommendations to meet True North goals.
