We are seeking to expand our Amazon Machinery Safety Compliance Inspection team with Safety Engineers to influence the safe design and operation of Amazon's cutting-edge technology across our facilities. One focus area of the Amazon Workplace Health & Safety (WHS) mission is to provide tools, resources, and environments that support safe, efficient, and healthy behaviors, encouraging employees to proactively manage their health and well-being. To support this, Amazon is seeking Machinery Safety Compliance Engineers to join the High-Risk Operations team.
The successful candidates will ensure high safety standards are integrated into systems and processes across various facilities in Europe, conducting equipment inspections to identify improvements for safety enhancement. The role requires technical knowledge of EU machinery safety standards, including PUWER / UWED regulations, to meet country-specific requirements. Emphasis will be on safety engineering principles, machinery knowledge, and cross-functional engagement to develop compliant processes for the EU network.
Location: Mix of on-site and office work, with frequent travel up to 60-70%.
Key job responsibilities
- Support Amazon facilities by performing risk assessments of machinery and equipment at both legacy and new sites.
- Develop solutions that meet Amazon's safety, risk reduction, customer satisfaction, and operational standards.
- Manage inspection team involvement in projects, adapting to changes to facilitate inspections.
- Complete inspections, review corrective actions, and implement controls.
- Coordinate with engineering, reliability, maintenance, procurement, and real estate teams.
- Manage support requests, prioritize tasks, and support health and safety objectives.
- Contribute to project planning, act as machinery advisor, and support EU WHS team.
- Maintain inspection data, plan travel efficiently, and ensure site safety compliance.
Minimum qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent in relevant field.
- Experience in machinery inspection, with knowledge of robotics and material handling equipment.
- Understanding of EU Machine Directive 2006/42/EC and standards.
- Practical risk assessment skills.
- Proven record of managing safety inspections across multiple sites.
- Strong communication skills; ability to influence at all organizational levels.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and related tools.
Preferred qualifications
- Experience with Notified or Approved bodies for Machinery Safety.
- NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent qualification.
- Formal Machinery Safety certification (e.g., CMSE).
- Lean principles and process improvement experience.
- TUV Certified Functional Safety Engineer.
- Experience working with cross-functional teams and managing projects independently.
