EXTERNAL Local National Applicants, who reside in Germany.
Serves as a mechanical engineering technical expert with responsibility for developing the designs, plans, and specifications for plumbing, heating, ventilating, air conditioning, and other systems of major size and complexity for use in military facilities in European and NATO allied nations. This includes multi-story buildings, heating plants, medical facilities, DODDS Schools, Commissaries, Hotels, and similar structures. The mechanical engineering discipline requires the application of US and Host Nation criteria, codes, and standards in the construction of the most complex military facilities. Prepares drawings on CADD, specifications, and design analyses for mechanical portions of design performed in-house, and reviews contractor’s design submittals. Typically, projects assigned are of considerable difficulty, containing unusual features and requiring departures from previous approaches. Design review and development are complicated by adherence to US and Host Nation building, safety, and fire codes; use of US and foreign materials and equipment; and differences in standards and construction techniques. Also, serves as a technical advisor to USAEDE engineers on complex design projects, evaluates design objectives, performs complex calculations, and identifies economical and efficient procedures considering all influences. Prepares necessary drawings, specifications, and supporting documents for procurements, reviews work of contractors to ensure design excellence and space requirements, and provides technical advice on design solutions. Assists in training new engineers and consults with construction personnel to resolve unforeseen problems during construction, preparing sketches or change drawings as needed.
For projects designed in-house, performs or directs site surveys and investigations, evaluates data, and incorporates relevant factors into the design.
Performs other duties as assigned.

E&T Levels I thru IV : not creditable for positions in this occupational series.
E&T Level V : Applicants must be graduates from a recognized German institution (Fachhochschule, Berufsakademie, or Technische Hochschule) as an Engineer in the required discipline, fully recognized by German authorities to practice engineering. Foreign applicants must obtain an equivalent certification from German authorities.
LANGUAGE PROFICIENCY LEVEL :
English and German Language Proficiency Level C1 required.
