Amazon Logistics (AMZL) is looking to hire an experienced, innovative, hands-on, and customer-obsessed Senior Hardware Development Engineer to lead the development of new mechatronic products to integrate into our Delivery Station of the future. The successful candidate will be a member of the Amazon Logistics Innovation Engineering team and will be responsible for strategizing, defining, and managing the lifecycle of new mechatronic technologies for the AMZL Delivery Stations.

This role requires experienced and entrepreneurial-minded individuals with combined robotics, engineering, planning, and analytical skills. This individual will directly influence the Amazon last mile automation roadmap by partnering with Robotics, Software Tech Teams, Process Engineering teams, Operations, Facilities, and Engineering teams to improve our final customer shopping experience.

Key job responsibilities

As a Hardware Development Engineer, you will be part of a team working on the development of complex mechatronic products. Your responsibilities include:

  1. Leading end-to-end equipment technology development from ideation to on-site implementation.
  2. Writing requirements, functional specifications, design verification plans, and test procedures.
  3. Gathering customer needs and field feedback to propose new solutions and enhancements.
  4. Influencing technical and business decisions through data-driven contributions.
  5. Defining project timelines, managing budgets, and conducting progress reviews.
  6. Partnering with simulation teams for validating ideas and optimizing workflows.
  7. Leading discussions on scalability strategies with various teams.

A day in the life

Your daily activities may include collaborating with vendors, field visits to understand associate challenges, building and validating prototypes, demonstrating benefits through simulation and data, writing business cases, and understanding the impact of technology on processes and employees.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Mechatronics, Automation Engineering, or related field
  • 5+ years in mechatronic systems development and validation
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or similar CAD software
  • Strong understanding of mechanical engineering principles applicable to product design
  • Experience in scalable machine design, cost reduction, and maintainability
  • Ability to manage complex projects independently in a dynamic environment
  • Fluency in English

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • MSc Degree in relevant engineering fields
  • Experience with PLM software and ECO processes
  • Familiarity with manufacturing simulation software (e.g., FlexSim, Emulate3D)
  • Experience with data analytics tools (e.g., SQL, Amazon Quicksight)
  • Knowledge of Machine Learning, IoT, AI platforms
  • Proficiency in German or French (beneficial but not required)
