Jobbeschreibung

The Leibniz-Forschungsinstitut for Molecular Pharmacology (FMP) belongs to the „Forschungsverbund Berlin e. V. (FVB)“. The FVB is an institution of seven natural sciences research institutes in Berlin funded by the Federal Republic of Germany and the association of its federal states. The research institutes belong to the Leibniz association. The Leibniz-Forschungsinstitut for Molecular Pharmacology (FMP) is a non-university academic research organisation dedicated to basic biomedical research and is located at the Research Campus Berlin Buch in close vicinity to the Max Delbrück Center for Molecular Medicine and the Charité Experimental and Clinical Research Center.

We are looking for a

Staff Scientist (f / m / d)

Ref. 29 / 2023)

in the mass spectrometry and proteomics facility. The position will be initially for 2 years with the possibility of extension.

Responsibilities include:

  1. Optimization and application of different quantitative proteomic methods such as SILAC, TMT (tandem mass tag), and label-free approaches with DDA and DIA.
  2. Optimization and application of structural and chemical proteomic methods (cross-linking MS, proximity biotinylation, protein stability profiling).
  3. Analysis of post-transcriptional modifications with a focus on phosphorylation.
  4. Supporting users of the MS facility throughout the MS workflow from sample preparation to data analysis.
  5. Coordinating with technicians and engineers to maintain and operate LC / MS instruments.

Requirements:

  • Excellent knowledge of different quantitative proteomic techniques.
  • Experience with DDA and DIA acquisition and data analysis.
  • Expertise in handling LC / MS instruments, especially Thermo Fisher Orbitrap Tribrid and Exploris mass spectrometers.
  • Experience in cross-linking MS or other structural and chemical proteomic methods is advantageous.
  • Ability to document and present scientific data reliably.
  • Strong communication skills and proficiency in English.

The FMP's mass spectrometry and proteomics platform comprises an international team providing MS services and developing novel strategies. The research scope includes global quantitative proteome profiling and identification of post-translational modifications. The facility hosts state-of-the-art mass spectrometers, including Orbitrap Exploris 480, LTQ-Orbitrap Fusion Lumos, among others. The successful candidate will work closely with other staff scientists and technical assistants to operate MS instruments, set up experiments, and assist in data interpretation.

Additional requirements:

  • A PhD in analytical chemistry, biochemistry, biophysics, or related fields.
  • Strong expertise in mass spectrometry and proteomics, particularly quantitative approaches with DDA and DIA.
  • Interest in methodological development for collaborative projects.
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English.

We offer a family-friendly environment, equal opportunities, and support for childcare. Salaries are based on TVöD.
