At the Faculty of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences, Chair of Landscape Ecology, subject to the allocation of funds, we are offering a position starting as soon as possible on a temporary basis for the duration of the project "WETSCAPES2.0", ending on 2029-03-31:

Measurement Technology Engineer (m/f/d)

Technical experts play a central role within WETSCAPES 2.0, an interdisciplinary research project relying on comprehensive data sets from multiple experimental field sites. Technical experts are fully integrated into research teams and are responsible for installing and maintaining electronic field equipment, including data storage.

Responsibilities:

  • Preparing, setting up, and maintaining the network for recording environmental parameters in fens in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern
  • Adapting measurement technology for sensor data transmission to determine environmental parameters (e.g., soil/air temperatures, water level, irradiation)
  • Administering data transmission and integrating data into the existing research data structure
  • Installing, constructing, maintaining, and servicing eddy covariance systems for recording greenhouse gas fluxes and peripherals (e.g., solar modules)
  • Preparing raw data from eddy covariance measurements to calculate greenhouse gas fluxes using standardized scripts
  • Coordinating field work
  • Documenting data collection and processing steps accurately and comprehensibly
  • Participating in project meetings

Qualifications:

  • Completed university degree (FH diploma, Bachelor's, or comparable) in measurement technology, environmental engineering, or related fields
  • Experience supervising scientific field technology is advantageous
  • Relevant experience with engineering challenges (eddy covariance technology or sensor network automation) is desirable
  • Proficiency in written and spoken English; basic knowledge of German or willingness to learn quickly
  • Physical ability for fieldwork in peatlands
  • Valid driver's license (German class B or equivalent)
  • Good communication and teamwork skills for interdisciplinary work
