Job Description:

Do you want to help reduce the digital divide in countries of the Global South and actively shape local digital transformations? Do you want to advise municipal multimedia centres or youth clubs in West Africa, improve platforms for climate data in Latin America, breathe life into digital administrative services for municipalities in Central Asia, support micro-enterprises in North Africa in their digital journey, or assist vocational education and training providers in South Asia in becoming more digitally oriented? Do you have experience in the field of digital transformation and have the relevant skills and toolkit? Then you've come to the right place!

Under the motto "promoting inclusive digital change", our Digital Ambassador initiative aims to provide disadvantaged groups, municipalities, and civil society organisations in partner countries with better access to and improved use of relevant digital technologies. This initiative promotes internet use in rural areas, digital literacy among women, girls, and young people, and digital support for democratic processes.

Digital Ambassadors act as intermediaries between the digital world, local digital ecosystems, and ground realities. They support solutions to bridge digital divides between rural and urban, rich and poor, men and women.

As a development worker, your tasks include:

  • Teaching basic digital skills, developing accessible digital information channels, supporting data protection/cybersecurity, fostering entrepreneurship and start-ups, Industry 4.0/4IR, and digitalisation in vocational training.
  • Designing digital concepts or media campaigns for NGOs advocating democratic participation in digital spaces.
  • Developing innovative solutions for internet access without broadband or affordable smartphone data plans.
  • Working within a GIZ team with local partners to design and develop solutions collaboratively.
  • Holding a university degree or professional qualification related to digital transformation.
  • Having practical experience supporting digital transformation processes and initial experience in development cooperation.
  • Proven IT/ICT knowledge, understanding of IT developments, and experience with digital skills teaching or digital change management.
  • Knowledge of digital literacy promotion, advisory approaches for ICT, and interest in cooperation/interface management and process design (e.g., Design Thinking, Scrum).
  • Experience abroad, preferably in non-European countries, and in intercultural contexts.
  • Sensitivity to gender equality approaches in line with German feminist development policy.
  • Strong teamwork, networking, conceptual, analytical, and communication skills, with a structured, flexible, and creative working style.
  • Fluency in English or German; knowledge of Spanish or French is an advantage.

Location: Capital and provincial cities in sub-Saharan Africa, Asia, Latin America, or MENA region, depending on project needs.

Please specify your preferred region in your cover letter.

The assignment duration is typically between one and two years, including a preparation phase.

Additional information about the project and country-specific advice can be found through the Federal Foreign Office.

The length of assignment is 12-24 months plus 1 month of preparation. It may be suitable for a gap year—please contact us for details.

This is an unsolicited application; after submission, you will receive automatic replies with further info. Feedback may be delayed.

GIZ's Development Service seeks candidates with relevant qualifications, at least two years of professional experience, and either German or EU nationality. Willingness to travel regularly is required.
