The (Senior) Business Controller for Supply & Trading Switzerland serves as a strategic finance leader and trusted advisor for the Swiss gasoline, diesel, and heating oil businesses. This position is integral to enabling high-quality decision-making through accurate financial reporting, deep performance insight, and proactive business planning. As a mini-CFO for the Supply & Trading business unit, the role has significant visibility and influence across trading desks, commercial teams, and senior management
In addition to overseeing the full performance management cycle—ranging from month-end close and financial forecasting to business plan preparation—the controller will play a pivotal role in digital finance transformation, process automation, and driving data-driven decision-making. The individual will engage with stakeholders across functions and countries, contributing to VARO’s transition towards a low-carbon energy future while ensuring the integrity of financial governance and performance
Act as the lead financial partner for the Swiss Supply & Trading business, advising senior commercial leadership on financial KPIs, profitability, and risk
Lead the monthly closing and performance reporting cycle in close cooperation with Accounting, Risk, and Trading
Develop and manage rolling forecasts, variance analyses, and business plans for gasoline, diesel, and heating oil products
Provide high-quality analysis and insights to support margin optimization, supply chain efficiency, and hedging strategies
Drive alignment between financial outcomes and strategic business goals across cross-functional teams
Coordinate with auditors, finance functions, and business controllers across Europe to ensure consistency and compliance with IFRS and internal standards
Drive the automation of financial reporting and forecasting processes, supporting the transition from Excel-heavy workflows to ERP-integrated dashboards (e.g., JDE, VISTA)
Lead or support key transformation initiatives, particularly in the context of decarbonization and regulatory adaptation in the fuels market
Continuously optimize controlling and reporting frameworks to improve efficiency, accuracy, and transparency

Deep expertise in financial control, accounting, and financial strategy
Ability to translate financial data into actionable business insights
Analytical mindset with strong critical thinking skills
High IT affinity with experience in ERP systems (JDE/VISTA) and digital finance transformation
Strong interpersonal skills to engage with senior business leaders, auditors, and cross-functional teams
Ability to drive process improvements and financial innovation
Bachelor’s and/or Master’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field
5+ years of experience in financial control, business analysis, or strategic finance, preferably in a trading, refining, or commodity environment
Strong background in IFRS financial closing and reporting cycles
Experience with ERP systems (e.g., JDE, VISTA) and digital finance tools
