A Software Engineer, Traffic Simulation (m/w/d) to develop scalable and realistic traffic simulation environments for autonomous vehicle (AV) testing. You will work on generating complex traffic scenarios, integrating real-world data with simulations, and ensuring compliance with industry regulations. Your work will directly contribute to improving AV safety and performance through rigorous simulation-based testing.

A Software Engineer, Traffic Simulation (m/w/d) to develop scalable and realistic traffic simulation environments for autonomous vehicle (AV) testing. You will work on generating complex traffic scenarios, integrating real-world data with simulations, and ensuring compliance with industry regulations. Your work will directly contribute to improving AV safety and performance through rigorous simulation-based testing.


Tasks

  • Build a programmatic system that can automatically generate thousands of permutations of given scenario conditions.

  • Combine formal verification, traffic rule formalization, and simulation-based testing.

  • Implement realistic and interactive car, cyclist, and pedestrian agents.

  • Integrate logged data replay with simulated agents.

  • Design challenge-oriented simulations that meet industry regulations and standards.

  • Design performance, coverage, and safety metrics for closed-loop AV testing.


Requirements

  • MSc. in Computer Science or Mathematics (or related fields).

  • Industry experience writing Python (C++ knowledge is beneficial).

  • Experience with machine learning and applied deep learning.

  • Experience with AV simulation frameworks (e.g., Carla).

  • Knowledge of AV industry standards and regulations (e.g., OpenScenario, SOTIF, RSS).

  • Experience in requirement analysis, test case writing, and software-in-the-loop testing.

  • Experience with formal verification and temporal logics is a plus.

  • Strong organizational skills and teamwork abilities.

  • German driver's license and/or strong knowledge of German traffic rules.
