PLC Commissioning Engineer – Warehouse Robotics

Location : Germany. 70-100% travel

Salary : €50,000 - 70,000 + overtime account

About the Role :

We are seeking a skilled and hands-on PLC Commissioning Engineer to join our clients dynamic automation team focused on warehouse robotics and material handling systems. You will play a key role in commissioning, troubleshooting, and optimizing programmable logic controllers (PLCs) for state-of-the-art robotic systems in modern, high-throughput warehouse environments.

Key Responsibilities :

  • Commission, test, and validate PLC-controlled warehouse robotics and various customer sites.
  • Configure, troubleshoot, and optimize PLC programs (e.g., Siemens, Beckhoff) to ensure system performance meets design specifications.
  • Collaborate with mechanical, electrical, and software engineers to integrate automation components and resolve interface issues.
  • Interpret electrical schematics, control panel layouts, and network topologies.
  • Conduct I / O checks, motor and sensor calibration, and ensure field devices communicate correctly with PLCs.
  • Support site acceptance testing (SAT), functional testing (FAT), and system handovers.
  • Provide technical support during installation, start-up, and early operation phases.
  • Document commissioning procedures, test results, and any modifications to control logic.
  • Train end-users and maintenance personnel on system operation and diagnostics.

Requirements :

  • Degree or diploma in Electrical Engineering, Automation, Mechatronics, or a related field.
  • Proven experience in PLC commissioning, ideally in warehouse automation or other robotics environments.
  • Fluent in English, German to a minimum of B1 level (conversational).
  • Strong knowledge of PLC platforms such as Siemens S7 / TIA Portal or Beckhoff TwinCAT.
  • Familiarity with industrial communication protocols (e.g., Profinet, EtherNet / IP, OPC UA).
  • Comfortable working in fast-paced, high-tech environments with tight deadlines.
  • Willingness to travel extensively and work on-site during project implementation phases (usually Monday - Friday, returning home for the weekend).
