The successful candidate will be a key part of the operations team and will be responsible for project managing new Amazon Fulfillment Centers planning, design, and construction. This includes the extension of existing facilities and new sites. The Construction Manager will play an integral role in developing and implementing the EU network infrastructure, analyzing and evaluating different facility scenarios and build-out designs. Additionally, this role supports the standardization of technical and facility-related processes and systems. The position combines construction engineering, planning, project management, facilities management, and contract management, requiring proven ability in planning, design, and project control of new and existing facility buildings.

Key job responsibilities

  1. Oversee construction engineering, planning, and design for Amazon Fulfillment Centers and expansion projects.
  2. Support new fulfillment network buildings and capacity enhancements within existing European Fulfillment Centers.
  3. Conduct construction engineering design on new and remodel projects.
  4. Prepare reports, specifications, and technical analyses to define design requirements, equipment, and services.
  5. Survey facilities, develop procedures to audit facilities, evaluate and analyze issues, and recommend solutions for infrastructure, safety, and security problems.
  6. Negotiate contracts with vendors, ensuring they are fit for purpose, cost-effective, and include appropriate SLAs.
  7. Manage site operations, planning, and subcontractor coordination.
  8. Assist in due diligence for new opportunities.
  9. Coach and guide project teams throughout the project lifecycle.
  10. Ensure contracted resources meet quality and duration targets, addressing under-performance.
  11. Audit contractors for skills and competence, and inform them of resource or work demand changes.
  12. Establish and operate information systems for scheduling and recording contract work.
  13. Support contractors to improve performance.
  14. Mentor new team members on best practices.

The candidate will be part of the REI (Retrofits, Expansions, and Initiatives) design and construction team, focusing on extending and upgrading existing facilities, supporting the development of the EU network infrastructure, analyzing scenarios, and standardizing processes.

Minimum qualifications

  • B.Sc in Civil Engineering, Architecture, or equivalent.
  • Experience in project management, construction, or engineering, managing new builds and upgrades of warehouses/logistics buildings.
  • Construction market experience in EU countries is a key asset.
  • Experience from design to operation.
  • Negotiation experience in construction, procurement, and labor contracts within the EU.
  • Proven management of construction quality systems.
  • Team management experience.
  • Fluency in English.
  • Knowledge of Six Sigma and Lean techniques.
  • MRICS/RIBA or equivalent qualification.
  • Chartered Engineer or equivalent.
  • Experience deploying systems from scratch is a plus.
  • Languages such as German, French, Polish, Arabic, Portuguese, Turkish, Afrikaans, and Zulu are preferred.
