Jobbeschreibung

Munich-based OroraTech is developing a constellation of nanosatellites with thermal infrared cameras for automated wildfire detection, severe weather warnings, and many other applications. Following the successful launches of our FOREST1 mission in January 2022 and FOREST2 in June 2023, we are launching our next satellite, FOREST3, at the beginning of 2025, which includes an in-house developed payload and bus. In the same year, our first satellite plane, OTCP1, as well as our newly designed 16U satellite, GENAOT, will be launched.

The next step is to improve our satellite design based on all the learnings we have gained and to scale up our production to extend our satellite constellation.

We are looking for a talented hands-on engineer to support us with the design and testing of the new generation of our satellites and payloads. You will be joining a very motivated and highly enthusiastic team of experts in the fields of mechanical, optics, electronics, spacecraft, and software engineering.

What you'll be doing

  • As a Mechanical Engineer, you will:
  • Take lead responsibility for the mechanical structure within individual satellite or payload projects, such as developing mounting structures for subsystems or optical components, deployment mechanisms, or even an entire satellite.
  • Be involved in all aspects of mechanical design from initial concept to part designs, assemblies, production drawing generation, and manufacturing orders.
  • Design components for upcoming satellite missions, testing, and ground support.
  • Perform hands-on prototyping with 3D printed and metal parts, including conducting first assemblies and debugging to improve your mechanical design.
  • Work closely with our AIT team during development phases and assist with the assembly, integration, and testing of flight hardware.
  • Participate in design reviews from the concept level down to individual parts.
  • Plan and assist mechanical test campaigns for the satellite and its subsystems, including functional and vibration tests.
  • Practical experience (3 years) in developing complex mechanical structures and mechanisms, including concept design and production drawing generation.
  • Proficiency in CAD software, preferably SolidWorks.
  • Strong hands-on attitude and experience in rapid prototyping technologies (tell us about your side projects!).
  • Strong problem-solving skills with a proactive mindset.
  • Exceptional organizational skills and a structured approach to work.
  • You are good at recognizing timeline, monetary, or design-related risks and communicating them early and effectively.
  • You know how to reliably work with task or ticketing project management systems like Wrike.
  • You find effective ways of documenting your work and sharing it using software like Slack and Confluence.
  • Motivation to tackle a wide variety of challenges, looking beyond your job description.

Benefits

  • Wellpass MVV ticket
  • Virtual shares for all permanent employees (VSOP - Virtual Share Option Program)
  • Company pension scheme (bAV) in cooperation with Allianz
  • Company accident insurance for all employees (coverage during work and leisure, worldwide, 24/7)
  • Discount on lunch meals
  • A fully-funded 5-day retreat to a Bavarian castle, devoted to pursuing your personal passion projects
  • JobRad
