Amazon is building the next generation software, hardware, and processes that will run global manufacturing processes for our Devices. We are constantly innovating in automating and accelerating the delivery of products and packages, including building custom hardware and applying robotics, mobility, supply chain optimization, machine learning, image processing, and real-time data processing using distributed systems.

As a Senior Automation Engineer, you will be responsible for developing world-class manufacturing automation solutions to scale our operations globally. Your role will involve innovating automation solutions for assembly processes, exploring cutting-edge technologies, and designing equipment and fixtures in 3D CAD.

Key job responsibilities

  1. Develop advanced simulations and data analyses to optimize automation system configurations, integrating Amazon’s robotics with external material handling systems.
  2. Validate simulation models using production data, site visits, and cross-team collaboration to ensure accurate performance evaluation.
  3. Use simulation models to identify and justify performance improvements through control logic, hardware, and process flow changes.
  4. Collaborate with Tech Deployment teams to implement solutions in the field.

A day in the life

We seek an innovative, solutions-oriented engineer to optimize complex process flows leveraging advanced robotics and automation systems at a massive scale. This role offers the opportunity to be involved in a wide range of automation projects from the start, interfacing with Amazon R&D, design teams, and strategic automation partners worldwide. You will work on projects to optimize performance, quality, and delivery of automation systems, leveraging operational data to deliver results. This position is ideal for an automation engineer aiming for a strategic, globally impactful role.

Minimum qualifications

  • Engineering degree in mechanical, electrical, industrial, robotics, mechatronics, or equivalent.
  • Background in Computer Vision, Machine Learning, and Robotics.
  • Experience with building and deploying AI systems in manufacturing automation.
  • Experience developing integration interfaces for industrial robot manipulators.
  • Hands-on expertise in robotics technologies, from user interfaces to back-end systems.
  • Experience applying modeling and simulation to industrial automation projects.
  • Experience working with cross-functional teams, suppliers, and field operations to define requirements and metrics.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Competence with simulation and optimization software packages.
  • Proficiency in programming languages.
  • Industrial controls engineering experience.
  • Experience with complex machine learning models, industrial control software commissioning.
  • Knowledge of machine and process reliability, integration of human and automated processes, experimental design, and statistical analysis.
  • Understanding of professional software engineering practices, including coding standards, code reviews, source control, build processes, testing, and operations.
