This role is the primary interface between freight forwarders, government agencies, customs brokers, and Mars affiliates regarding trade compliance. It involves providing internal consulting and advanced customs knowledge for the EU, developing strategies for trade and customs compliance risk mitigation, and influencing legal, supply, and commercial leaders to ensure adherence to regulations.
Responsibilities include:
- Design and implement import/export compliance programs within designated regions, including customs regulation adherence, valuation, tariff classification, and duty avoidance.
- Manage relationships with customs brokers and freight forwarders, collaborating on brokerage sourcing.
- Develop processes to ensure compliance with FTA and other duty/cost avoidance initiatives.
- Conduct compliance audits and implement corrective actions based on findings.
- Develop policies and SOPs to uphold compliance standards.
- Resolve trade compliance issues and improve clearance procedures for import/export shipments.
- Ensure internal controls to minimize legal and business risks related to customs compliance.
- Maintain and develop skills in trade compliance and regulatory issues.
What are we looking for?
- Expertise in EU and surrounding countries' trade and customs regulations.
- Ability to design and implement compliance programs aligned with laws and regulations.
- Experience in complex CPG, legal, or consulting environments.
- Proficiency with compliance software, SAP, and trade programs like duty drawback and free trade agreements.
- Excellent English communication skills.
- Preferred qualifications include a broker's license, law degree, or certifications in compliance, logistics, or international studies.
