Data Processing Engineer

We are looking for building up a team of Data Processing Engineers to support the development of new programs and the maintenance and evolution of online Ground Segment components, with a focus on near real-time Level 0, Level 1, and Level 2 data processing for our client EUMETSAT in Darmstadt.

The main activities of the service would be in support of missions such as EPS-SG T-GPS, MicroCarb (before entering in routine operations) and MTG-I2.

The position will include tasks such as:

  • Define, design, implement and integrate architectures or elements of architectures for data processing ground segments and their components – with special emphasis on level 0, level 1, and level 2 near real-time data processing
  • Maintain and evolve existing operational data processing ground segments applications or application components especially for those under configuration control
  • Expert advice to the procurement and installation of software, and the co-ordination of software releases with external providers of support services
  • Generate formal project documentation
  • Participation in meetings and formal reviews

Skills Required

  • University degree or equivalent from an institution of higher education relevant for the tasks in hand; Master degree is also welcome.
  • Fluency in English.
  • Excellent technical writing skills, in particular in formal technical documentation, e.g. requirements, design documentation, test procedures, maintenance procedures
  • Experience with the Qualification and Production Phase with preparation of Integration, E2E SW and Acceptance Test Readiness/Results Reviews data packages
  • Experience in the Feasibility and requirements definition/consolidation phase with participation in Requirement Reviews and/or Design Reviews
  • Experience in engineering activities for I&V campaigns including definition of test plans, coordination and validations
  • Experience of operating and maintaining software systems in Linux, AIX, and Solaris.
  • Competence in software testing, unit test suite maintenance, automated testing, verification and validation.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and team working.
  • Capability to be independent and to adapt to a rapidly changing, often stressful environment is also essential
  • Understanding of, and experience with, git and gitlab, and svn.

Additional Skills (ideally having experience with as many as possible):

  • Experience with change management processes.
  • Requirements management experience using DOORS.
  • Experience with operational Earth Observation science data processing.
  • Knowledge of relevant standards, quality assurance and configuration management principles and applications.
  • C++/C programming languages experience in Linux, AIX, and Solaris environments.
  • Use of and application programming of database systems.
  • Software debugging, memory analysis, and profiling.
  • Understanding of, and experience with, software building and packaging, specifically make, CMake, RPM.
  • Competence in the use of scripting languages (e.g., bash, shell, Perl) and high-level languages (e.g., Python, Java)

Experience in data analytics for satellite EO product data is considered as an advantage.

You might be required in case of exceptional circumstances (e.g. commissioning phases, initial operational projects, etc.) on-call support for monitoring and supporting operational teams in daily activities.

This is a full time position based in Darmstadt, Germany starting ASAP
