Prototyping Project Manager (m / f / d)

As a Prototyping Project Manager, you will coordinate and manage the design-to-build process for prototype aircraft and components, working closely with Design Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Supply Chain, and other involved functions. Your mission is to successfully hand over produced and accepted prototypes to the customer on time, within budget, and with the highest quality. Safety and effectiveness are top priorities throughout the design-to-build process for all Volocopter prototypes.

We are looking for someone with project management experience in a technical environment, capable of coordinating and communicating effectively in a multidisciplinary, dynamic setting while consistently achieving targets.

Responsibilities

1. Manage the entire prototyping projects across different stages.
2. Plan and coordinate the design-to-build process at the interface with all involved functions, including Design, Production, Procurement, Quality, and Flight Test.
3. Align with and manage involved functions by defining requirements, deliverables, and responsibilities, managing dependencies, and steering overall target achievement.
4. Identify, analyze, and resolve potential project blockers and conflicts between functions.
5. Manage and track the project budget, including cost optimization.
6. Support the transition from prototyping to serial production.
7. Assist in defining and managing internal and company-wide prototyping procedures.
8. Show leadership by encouraging innovative approaches and out-of-the-box thinking.

Qualifications

Required skills:

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Industrial Engineering, Management, Business Administration with a technical background, or similar.
• At least 2 years of project management experience in a technical environment.
• Effective communication skills in technical settings.
• Experience working in fast-changing project environments, such as R&D phases.
• Ability to adapt to changing environments with quick, creative solutions.
• Initiative, ownership of projects, and a solution-oriented mindset.
• Fluent in German and English.

Preferred skills:

• Over 2 years of experience in a prototyping environment.
• Experience in the aviation industry.
• Experience in establishing and standardizing new processes.
