In this role, you will work closely with our customers to solve their automation needs by designing and implementing innovative, complex mechatronic solutions.

Summary: The Application Engineer (MAE) plays a vital role in enhancing sales and market share for Festo in the North American Market. They specialize in Mechatronics, focusing on Motion Control technology and products such as Servo Drives and Motors, PLCs, HMIs, Motion Controllers, I/O Devices, Ball Screw and Toothed Belt Electromechanical Actuators, and Cartesian Robots. The MAE provides in-depth technical knowledge during the pre-sales phase to the sales team, distribution partners, and customers. They consider commercial factors when proposing solutions and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure seamless coordination. Additionally, the MAE leads post-sales technical support, guiding customers from project inception to operation, closing sales, and initiating new opportunities.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Provide technical advice and support regarding applications and production processes within industry segments.
  • Create technical content for marketing, including tutorials and videos.
  • Engage with external control groups to stay updated on market trends.
  • Develop relationships with controls engineers at customer organizations.
  • Maintain communication with other MAEs and Technical Support teams across North America.
  • Support onsite customer startup activities, including proof of concept and device integration.
  • Establish and maintain a repository of software applications and libraries.
  • Gather customer feedback for product development.
  • Collaborate with Technical Support to resolve technical issues.
  • Evaluate technical and commercial feasibility of proposals.
  • Discuss technical proposals to optimize machine performance and increase component sales.
  • Contribute to machine design discussions and specifications.
  • Support compliance with norms and regulations.
  • Identify and secure projects based on application and automation expertise.
  • Share knowledge to promote solution adoption.
  • Work additional hours and travel as necessary for business needs.
  • Act as the key technical interface during pre-sales, providing training and knowledge transfer.
  • Work closely with Technical Support to address customer issues.

Experience / Education Preferred:

  • English required; Spanish a plus.
  • Ability to interpret complex documents and respond effectively.
  • Experience with IEC-3 programming languages, CODESYS, Rockwell, Siemens TIA Portal, Beckhoff TwinCAT, Omron Sysmac Studio, and knowledge of Python, C++, C#, LabVIEW.
  • Familiarity with industrial communication protocols such as EtherCAT, EtherNet/IP, PROFINET, Modbus TCP, TCP/IP, IO-Link.
  • Understanding of motion control, PLCs, and I/O design.
  • Ability to size and design servo motor applications.
  • Knowledge of pneumatics and CAD.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechatronics, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering; MBA preferred.
  • 5-10+ years experience in project management, controls engineering, sales, or technical support in industrial automation.
  • Experience with Festo products is a plus.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills.
