The Role

The Systems Engineer will be part of the engineering team developing marine navigation and bridge systems for OSI’s government and naval markets. The role involves designing system requirements, defining architecture, and leading various system engineering functions throughout project lifecycles. The candidate should have experience coordinating with software, hardware, integration, test, production, and logistics teams, and may take on a technical lead role. This position supports the growth of our new office in Kiel, Germany.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop system designs, define architecture, interfaces, and specifications; perform trade studies; document designs via SSDD, ICDs, SRS.
  • Conduct requirement analysis, maintain traceability, and manage requirements.
  • Coordinate subsystem design and system integration.
  • Identify and resolve program support issues; develop corrective actions.
  • Design to military and IMO standards, ensuring compliance and requirements adherence.
  • Incorporate logistics support considerations such as reliability and availability into system design.
  • Review obsolescence issues and propose design updates.
  • Create design concepts and technical proposals for RFQs.
  • Lead customer design reviews and acceptance events, including system integration tests and trials.
  • Develop acceptance test procedures.
  • Manage scope, schedule, effort estimates, and technical risks; communicate progress regularly.
  • Work independently or in teams; mentor other engineers; coordinate activities.

You Bring

  • Degree in Engineering, Physics, or related field, or equivalent experience.
  • At least 8 years of engineering experience, with a minimum of 6 years in Systems Engineering; experience in marine electronics and integrated bridge systems is a plus.
  • Experience in defense or naval sectors is advantageous.
  • Proven leadership in engineering projects.
  • Strong knowledge of marine navigation and tactical sensors/systems.
  • Excellent understanding of Systems Engineering principles and standards.
  • Experience with network design and architecture.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Familiarity with requirements management tools like DOORS.
  • Knowledge of safety and human factors engineering is beneficial.
  • Eligibility for security clearance relevant to the location.
  • Willingness and ability to travel.
