Senior Frontend Engineer UI System (m/f/d)

Location: Involves infrequent travel. Based in Berlin, Germany.

We’re seeking a seasoned frontend engineer to lead the development of our enterprise-wide Design System as the first full-time team member. You will establish a scalable, resilient, and future-oriented UI component library built on React, taking ownership of its architecture, maintenance, and strategic evolution.

Your role will bridge design and development, working closely with interdisciplinary teams to promote an open, inclusive, and collaborative design culture. This position offers autonomy and creative freedom to drive long-term impact through systematic thinking and hands-on implementation.

About the Software Factory: secunet’s innovation program dedicated to developing new product classes, comprising highly motivated engineers focusing on security-centric shared components and a DevSecOps platform. This team offers exciting challenges and growth opportunities.

Responsibilities

1. Build and maintain the core infrastructure of our Design System
2. Develop sustainable architecture for React-based UI components
3. Collaborate with design teams to identify needs and deliver solutions
4. Foster a collaborative, open-source-inspired culture around the Design System
5. Contribute to long-term strategy and support new initiatives
6. Research emerging UI trends to keep the framework future-ready
7. Align priorities across teams and mediate between different needs

Your Profile

1. Extensive experience in frontend development
2. Experience with UI components and design systems
3. Passion for clean, reusable, and well-documented UI components
4. Background in maintainer ship and open-source collaboration
5. Excellent communication skills
6. Strategic mindset and interest in sustainable technology design
7. Ability to work across disciplines, from design to development to product
8. Familiarity with German language is advantageous but not required

• Experience with design tokens and component libraries
• Figma collaboration experience
• Knowledge of Nix build system (willingness to learn is expected)
