Head of Engineering (Berlin or Munich - Hybrid)

A leading European VC firm is hiring a Head of Engineering to take full ownership of its internal data platform — a system used to support sourcing and investment decisions. The platform is stable and functional but yet to reach its potential, and the firm is looking for a hands-on technical leader to drive both product adoption and engineering team growth . This is a rare opportunity to shape a strategic tool with firm-wide impact.

Responsibilities

Product Ownership : Define and deliver the roadmap for an internal data product used by investment, operations, and platform teams. Improve usage, UX, and value across stakeholders.

Team Leadership : Lead and grow a small team of engineers, while remaining active in coding and technical architecture.

Architecture & Delivery : Maintain and evolve a robust yet flexible stack (Python, SQL, Airflow, public cloud). Ensure scalability of systems like entity resolution and data crawling.

Cross-functional Collaboration : Work closely with product partners and internal users to drive adoption, gather feedback, and iterate quickly on features and functionality.

Role Requirements

• Proven track record of building and shipping data-driven products , ideally internal tools or B2B platforms.
• Approximately 8+ years of total software engineering experience, with 3+ years leading small, high-performance teams.
• Strong technical skills in Python , Typescript , PostgreSQL , and familiarity with open-source and cloud based data tooling.
• Demonstrated ability to balance technical leadership with hands-on coding .
• Deep product intuition and a user-focused mindset — able to co-own the roadmap and define technical priorities based on user value.
• Comfortable working in lean, startup-like environments where speed and clarity matter.
• Interest in venture capital and startups is important; experience in VC or financial services is a plus.
• Based in, or willing to regularly commute to, Berlin or Munich .
• A passion and interest in the European startup space is key
