The Luxembourg Centre for Systems Biomedicine (LCSB) is an interdisciplinary research centre of the University of Luxembourg.
We conduct fundamental and translational research in the field of Systems Biology and Biomedicine – in the lab, in the clinic and in silico. We focus on neurodegenerative processes and are especially interested in Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease and their contributing factors. The LCSB recruits talented scientists from various disciplines: computer scientists, mathematicians, biologists, chemists, engineers, physicists and clinicians from more than 50 countries currently work at the LCSB. We excel because we are truly interdisciplinary, and together we contribute to science and society.

The LCSB is recruiting a PI to build their own junior research group. The PI will be recruited as a research scientist and will report directly to the LCSB Director. We are looking to set up a computational group focusing on advanced image analysis using AI and machine learning. Possible scientific focus can be on clinical or biomedical (e.g. high-content microscopy) images or combining and integrating imaging data with other biomedical data types. The group should collaborate with experimental, computational and translational groups at LCSB and internationally and apply these methods to neurodegenerative or neurological diseases.

Your role

1. Lead your own research group, with one PhD student financed through internal funds
2. Develop your own group research strategy, in alignment with LCSB’s overall strategy
3. Acquire external funding at national and/or international level to further strengthen your research activities
4. Lead interdisciplinary research by reaching out to the experimental, computational and translational research groups within the collaborative environment of the University and LCSB
5. Interact and collaborate with other groups within the Luxembourg and the international research community
6. Be involved in the management of the LCSB though participation in regular PI meetings and other means
7. Be involved in teaching and student supervision in the University’s teaching programmes in biomedicine or data science

Your profile

1. A Ph.D. in relevant field with documented background in AI, machine learning, computer vision, image analysis or other relevant discipline
2. Experience with applications in the biomedical field and understanding of biomedical and or clinical imaging, ideally in the area of neurodegenerative or neurological diseases
3. An excellent research record proven by high-level publications, conference presentations, and participation in international research collaborations
4. Experience in interdisciplinary research and/or willingness to work in this highly interdisciplinary environment
5. Strong interpersonal and communications skills
6. Acquisition of own external funding during different career stages
7. First experience with personnel and budget management is considered a plus
8. Candidates with multiple research experiences abroad will be preferred
9. Additionally, work experience in industry is considered a plus
