Job Description

Chief Development Officer (CDO) – Renewables BESS, PV + Wind

Location: Germany

Focus: Central and Eastern Europe

The Company:

A well-capitalised and rapidly expanding renewable energy platform is seeking a visionary Chief Development Officer to lead its strategic growth across Central and Eastern Europe. Headquartered in Germany and backed by long-term institutional investors, the company is actively developing a multi-GW portfolio with a primary focus on Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), while also maintaining significant activities in solar PV and onshore wind. This is a rare opportunity to shape the development strategy of one of the region’s most dynamic clean energy players.

The Role:

  • Define and execute the company’s development strategy across Central and Eastern Europe, aligning with long-term investment goals and growth plans.
  • Lead high-level negotiations with institutional investors, landowners, regulators, and strategic partners to accelerate development and secure high-value assets.
  • Oversee the full project lifecycle - from opportunity origination through permitting, financing, and construction readiness to operational handover.
  • Build, lead, and mentor senior country-level development teams, fostering a high-performance, delivery-driven culture.
  • Collaborate closely with the CEO, CFO, and COO to ensure seamless alignment between development, technology, operations, and finance.

The Person:

  • 10+ years of senior-level experience in renewable energy project development, with a proven track record in BESS, solar PV, and/or onshore wind.
  • Strong leadership in managing multi-country portfolios and engaging directly with institutional investors, government agencies, and grid operators.
  • Commercially astute, with the ability to navigate complex regulatory and political landscapes across multiple jurisdictions.
  • Excellent leadership, stakeholder engagement, and C-level communication skills.
  • Fluent in both German & English; other regional are an asset.
