Position Overview

By 2030, the energy landscape will shift with reduced power from large coal plants and increased renewable generation, posing new challenges for grid restoration after blackouts. We are developing a software-based control component to aid in grid restoration under these conditions, leveraging awareness and situational recommendations.

We are seeking a Software Engineer (m/w/d) to strengthen our Energy Systems team in Dresden.

Responsibilities

  • Automate operations in high-voltage networks
  • Enhance the safety of electrical energy supply
  • Actively shape the energy transition

What You Can Expect

  • Participate in developing applications for power grid control centers focused on grid restoration
  • Implement real-time algorithms using modern tech stacks in a Linux environment
  • Develop and integrate APIs and data models based on CIM/CGMES standards
  • Collaborate closely with power grid and control system experts
  • Deliver stable, reliable, and secure control system solutions
  • Work with software engineering professionals to develop architecture for robust power grid applications

About You

We welcome applicants with various academic backgrounds, such as a Bachelor's in Computer Science, Energy Technology, or related fields, or practical experience at a similar level. We encourage candidates with the following qualifications:

  • Experience in designing and implementing software systems using C++, C#, or Java
  • Interest in modern programming languages like Rust and paradigms
  • Experience with modern development workflows, version control (Git), CI/CD, and TDD
  • Familiarity with agile methodologies like Scrum and Kanban
  • Fluent German skills

Strong analytical skills, teamwork, motivation, and high-quality standards are essential. Ability to develop multiple solutions, discuss options, and make rational decisions is also important.

  • Coaching experience
