Job Description

AWS is set to introduce the inaugural European Sovereign Cloud (ESC), a significant development in Utility Computing (UC). We are seeking experienced systems development engineers with a strong background in cloud operations to lead this initiative. As part of the AWS Managed Operations team, you will build and lead teams delivering high-availability AWS services such as EC2, S3, Dynamo, Lambda, and Bedrock, exclusively for EU customers. European Sovereign Cloud (ESC) is part of AWS Utility Computing (UC), providing innovative products from foundational services like S3 and EC2 to new offerings that set industry standards. As a member of AWS UC, you will support the development and management of Compute, Database, Storage, IoT, Platform, and Productivity services, especially for customers requiring specialized security solutions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee the launch of ESC in 2025, collaborating with global AWS teams.
  • Influence the evolution of AWS services and technology.
  • Enhance operations to improve availability, reliability, latency, and performance.
  • Deliver scalable, high-availability services for EU customers.

Typical Day

You will split your time between operating production systems and improving their reliability, availability, and performance. Tasks include root cause analysis, fixing bugs, executing critical changes, participating in design discussions, coding, and providing feedback. You may also participate in on-call rotations to resolve incidents outside of regular hours.

Eligibility Requirements

  • Fluent in English (written and spoken)
  • Legal right to work in Germany
  • Relocation support provided within the EU

Basic Qualifications

  • Experience with at least one modern programming language (Java, Typescript, Python, Ruby)
  • Familiarity with Linux, command line, basic administration, and networking fundamentals
  • Experience with scripting and automation

Preferred Qualifications

  • Troubleshooting skills across network, OS, and software layers
  • Scripting skills in Bash, Python, etc.
  • Experience with Infrastructure as Code tools (CDK, CloudFormation, Puppet, Chef, Ansible)
