Approximately 80% of all microchips worldwide are produced using ZEISS technologies. Join our Research and Development 'Mechanical Design' department. We are responsible for designing highly precise mechatronic systems for optical movements capable of working under ultra-clean vacuum, handling specialized test stands, transportation, setup, and integration processes, considering the highest cleanliness standards. Our tasks include creating technical drawings and documentation, supporting series production and integration in clean rooms, establishing assembly procedures in virtual reality, and ensuring cleanliness to guarantee hardware reliability. We utilize CAD tools, SAP, and PLM systems, and offer comprehensive services. If this excites you, join our Zurich team and take on the following tasks:

We seek a passionate and detail-oriented Materials Engineer for Cleanliness at our Zurich production site. You will be involved in developing and manufacturing semiconductor lithography equipment, working within the R&D department as part of the Cleanliness Engineering Team, engaging deeply with material selection for product longevity, including supplier interactions.

  • Serve as the main contact for material-specific issues affecting selection, cleanability, contamination control, storage, and failure modes
  • Optimize the entire manufacturing chain for compliance with cleanliness requirements and improve material reliability
  • Enforce, verify, and improve cleanliness and contamination control in cleanrooms and at supplier sites (qualification, training, inspections, analysis)
  • Collaborate with project stakeholders to identify and mitigate risks related to cleanliness and material failures
  • Troubleshoot non-conformities, perform root cause analysis, risk assessments, interpret data, and implement corrective actions

Qualifications:

  • Degree in Materials Science or similar; PhD preferred
  • Experience in at least two of the following: metallurgy, electroless nickel-phosphorus plating, corrosion and hydrogen embrittlement protection, flexible electronics
  • Experience in industries with high cleanliness standards (semiconductors, pharma) and familiarity with Zeiss/ASML specifications is a strong advantage
  • Willingness to work on-site in cleanrooms 80% of the time to support production
  • Understanding of supply chain management principles is desirable
  • English proficiency at C1, German at B2 level required
