Senior Backend Engineer - Consumer Tribe

The Consumer Tribe, a startup within SumUp, builds products that turn transactions into easier, more engaging, and more meaningful interactions while improving consumers' financial lives. You will have a lot of autonomy to build processes from scratch, solve impactful problems, and shape the future of the team. As a Backend Engineer (Golang), you will be responsible for:

1. Optimising backend performance for transaction processing.
2. Implementing robust security measures.
3. Designing scalable architectures.
4. Creating user-friendly APIs with clear documentation.
5. Emphasising code quality through unit testing.

We encourage the exploration of new languages and services, empowering our teams to choose the best technology for new projects. Currently, our Tribe is using Go, Kubernetes, Terraform, Kafka, gRPC, Postgres, AWS, and Rest APIs.

You will collaborate with other software developers, QAs, DevOps engineers, designers, product managers, and other key stakeholders to:

1. Design and implement backend services and APIs.
2. Clarify problems and outline opportunities.
3. Prototype solutions and ensure smooth deployment.
4. Support existing functionalities.

Work in a global context with teams in Europe, the US, and Latin America. Provide comprehensive documentation and high test coverage. Actively participate in the selection of new tools, technologies, and processes, code reviews, and pair programming with other software engineers. Help your team deliver business value by making decisions related to the backend and actively participating in product discussions. Build capabilities that bring value to millions of users and constantly adopt and actualize best practices with the team.

You’ll be great for this role if:

1. You have solid backend experience in Golang.
2. You have strong experience in software architecture and application design, with a track record of making architectural decisions and a deep understanding of fundamental system architecture and API design (RESTful and event-driven services).
3. You feel comfortable working with SQL and NoSQL databases.
4. You have solid debugging, optimisation, and problem-solving skills.
5. You have experience with CI/CD products such as GitHub Actions, Jenkins, ArgoCD.
6. You love to mentor people and share knowledge.
7. You have a passion for writing clear, concise, and testable code that your team can understand, maintain, and improve.

Any of the following would be considered a plus:

1. Good understanding of modern cloud environments - AWS, Prometheus, Grafana, Terraform, Docker, and Kubernetes.
2. You have experience with event streaming platforms and messaging brokers such as Kafka and RabbitMQ.
3. Experience in the fintech industry.
