The Institute for Applied Training Science in Leipzig is the central scientific institute for German elite and junior competitive sport. The work of the IAT focuses on athlete-oriented, sport-specific and process-accompanying training and competition research.

Your tasks
As a research assistant with a focus on software development, you will work in an interdisciplinary team on our IDA product suite. This is currently used in over 40 sports for planning, documenting and analyzing training and competition data in elite sport.
We look forward to your support in the development of new features and the modernization and consolidation of our tech stack. The aim is to continue to successfully meet the sometimes very specific requirements of a wide range of sports with a flexibly configurable and customizable product.

Our requirements
You have a university degree in computer science or a related field and have:

  1. Several years of practical experience in agile software development,
  2. Good communication skills and a willingness to work in a team,
  3. Relevant experience with a programming language such as PHP, Typescript or Java and an associated application framework,
  4. Initial experience with container virtualization, CI/CD pipelines, shell scripts,
  5. Business fluent German language skills.

What you can expect
You will be part of a motivated, communicative team with a flat hierarchy. The team consists of backend and frontend developers, UX and product designers, as well as support staff and a product manager. Together, we use agile working processes to manage the entire software lifecycle from requirements analysis and conception to design, architecture and CI/CD processes.
Specific projects from our backlog that we would ideally like to tackle and implement together with you as a backend developer include the following:

  1. Establishment of an event-driven backend architecture,
  2. Integration of a workflow engine for executing low-code applications,
  3. Standardization of our CI/CD workflows on the basis of a monorepo,
  4. Integration of a complex access control system.

You will receive a structured induction in the onboarding program and 30 days vacation per year. We also offer hybrid working models - such as mobile working, office and flexible working hours. There are numerous offers to support the compatibility of family and career as well as to promote your health, such as company sports groups, massages and more. Our institute is centrally located with free parking and good transport links. Look forward to a pleasant working atmosphere in an open and appreciative team.

What counts for us is ability; not sexual orientation or identity, age, religion, nationality or origin. We therefore welcome applications from all people. We promote professional equality between women and men and therefore particularly welcome applications from women.
The IAT promotes the professional participation of people with disabilities. You are only required to have a minimum level of physical aptitude. Severely disabled applicants with equal aptitude will be given preferential consideration.

Remuneration is in accordance with TVöD-Bund, depending on qualifications up to pay group 13, with annual special payment as well as capital-forming benefits and support in the company pension scheme.

The position is initially limited until 31.12.2025 due to the unresolved budget situation of the federal government with the option of extension or transfer to a permanent employment relationship.
