Are you passionate about conceptualizing and designing groundbreaking structures for one of the most exciting projects for space (Conical Imaging Microwave Radiometer for Copernicus Mission) and contributing to the manufacture of flying space hardware? Are you excited by new challenges? Do you want to be part of a multicultural and motivated team full of passion and team spirit? Do you like to run smaller deployable antenna flight and research projects?

Then LSS is the right place for you!

We are seeking a creative and driven Design Engineer to be an integral part of our team, shaping the future of space structures and technology. We are pioneering the development of large deployable antenna technology in Europe, targeting European and global markets.

As a motivated Design Engineer (m/w/d) at LSS, you will bridge Procurement, Engineering, and Product Development. Your role encompasses all technical engineering functions specific to a project, with a focus on CAD, and involves assembly and integration activities. You will have the opportunity to be part of a team that dares to dream big and transforms those dreams into tangible, revolutionary designs.

Tasks

  • Propose innovative solutions to improve existing designs and influence new product development through data-driven analysis.
  • Create 3D CAD models, detailed part and assembly drawings, and parts lists using SolidWorks.
  • Provide technical insights on assigned projects to meet technical and schedule objectives.
  • Enhance the Design team's working environment and relationships by supporting the Lead Design Engineer.
  • Prepare detailed technical reports and presentations, and actively participate in design discussions and reviews.
  • Create detailed BOM tables, collaborate with Supply Chain to define procurement requirements, and ensure timely delivery of components.
  • Take ownership of designs and coordinate with internal and external partners to optimize designs and interfaces.
  • Coordinate with the Analysis team to facilitate validation through FEA.
  • Liaise with the MAIT team, providing work instructions for manufacturing and assembly.
  • Manage design documentation with proper configuration control using SolidWorks PDM.

Requirements

  • Degree in Mechanical/Aerospace Engineering or similar qualification.
  • At least 5 years of professional experience in design engineering within European space or aerospace projects.
  • Experience in mechanical design of structures, including composite materials, metal, and CFRP components, preferably with SolidWorks.
  • Excellent English and German skills (oral and written).
  • Ability to learn quickly, understand complex designs, and work under tight deadlines.
  • Experience with space systems such as Deployable Structures and Mechanisms is highly desirable.
  • Analytical, solution-oriented, and strong team and communication skills.
  • Strong understanding of technical drawing, DIN standards, and design-for-manufacture concepts.
  • Excellent technical reporting skills.
  • Ability to identify design improvements and implement innovative solutions.
  • Knowledge of metal manufacturing processes.

Familiarity with space projects, ESA, and ECSS standards is highly desirable.

  • Witness your designs soar beyond Earth, contributing directly to space missions that redefine the future of Earth Observation and Telecommunication from Space!
  • Flexible working hours with core time
  • A relaxed, flat-hierarchy, motivated team environment
  • Casual dress code
  • Modern office with amenities, accessible by public transport (~6 mins walk to subway)
  • Opportunities for personal growth in a multicultural team of experts
  • A challenging, fast-paced role at the forefront of space technology
  • Collaborative work on multiple projects
