Otto von Guericke University Magdeburg (OVGU) is an internationally oriented and regionally networked university with a strong research profile.

The Faculty of Process and Systems Engineering seeks to fill the following vacancy at the Institute of Apparatus Design and Environmental Engineering:

Research Associate / PostDoc (m/f/d) in the field of heat engineering

Salary scale: 13 TV-L

Date commencing: 01.07.2025

Fixed term (until): 31.12.2027

Contract status: 100%

We are a university with a focus on engineering, natural sciences, economics, human sciences, and medicine. We offer excellent study and working conditions to 13,000 students from Germany and abroad, as well as approximately 3,000 employees.

The Institute for Apparatus Design and Environmental Technology (IAUT) is currently conducting a third-party funded project on a self-sustaining power-to-power process using cryogenic enthalpy storage. The successful candidate will take scientific leadership of this project, including project management and reporting.

Job description:

  • Design of a thermodynamic process involving liquefaction, storage, on-demand re-gasification, and expansion of a working fluid.
  • Layout and design of a plant to realize the process, creation of a digital twin of the plant.
  • Management of the project.
  • Publication of project results in scientific journals and presentation at conferences.
  • Supervision of students' graduation theses.
  • Participation in other scientific activities of IAUT.

Requirements profile:

  • Master's degree (or equivalent) in heat engineering, thermodynamics, energy engineering, process engineering, or a closely related field.
  • PhD in a relevant subject.
  • Experience with thermodynamics or process simulation software (preferable).
  • Good German language skills (B2 level).
  • Good English language skills (B2 level).
