ORGANIZATIONAL CONTEXT

The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) is the 2020 Nobel Peace Prize Laureate. WFP is the world's largest humanitarian organization, saving lives in emergencies and using food assistance to build a pathway to peace, stability, and prosperity for people recovering from conflict, disasters, and the impact of climate change. Around 20,000 people work for the organization, most of them in remote areas, directly serving the hungry poor.

To reach a world with zero hunger, WFP is investing in and growing private sector fundraising and partnerships.

ShareTheMeal is WFP's fundraising and awareness-raising app. This free, award-winning app is a pioneering way for people to join our efforts in creating a world with zero hunger.

ShareTheMeal currently has more than 1.3 million supporters worldwide who have shared more than 185 million meals (US$ 100 million). WFP is pursuing an ambitious growth strategy for individual giving, with ShareTheMeal as a key driver. The team, located in Berlin and remotely, focuses on increasing funds raised by further developing the app with new features, enhancing user engagement, and expanding the user base through marketing and communication initiatives. As the user base grows, there is a significant opportunity to increase funds from existing users and deliver an exceptional experience to build long-term relationships.

RESPONSIBILITIES

The Consultant, reporting to the Lead UX / UI Designer of ShareTheMeal, is expected to:

  • Support the designing of appealing user interfaces and improvements in user experience for ShareTheMeal, working closely with the Lead UX / UI Designer.
  • Work with requirements, collect references to best practices, and implement UX/UI changes by creating process flows, wireframes, and prototypes.
  • Create development-ready mockups, including edge cases and empty states.
  • Participate in user research, working closely with product, content, and marketing teams.
  • Gather and validate business and end-user requirements.
  • Design user journeys based on user needs and context of use.
  • Participate in work stream discussions and meetings as required.
  • Support and contribute to the design system.
  • Develop wireframes, designs, prototypes, storyboards, user flows, animations, and mockups for new or optimized features.
  • Prepare and iterate visual assets and pixel-perfect layouts for native mobile apps and web, working closely with developers and QA.
  • Provide quality assurance on interface implementation.
  • Support other activities within ShareTheMeal as needed.

DELIVERABLES

Improvements to UI and UX of the mobile apps and website, including documentation and assets handover.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • University degree in Marketing, Advertisement, Media, Communications, Science, or relevant field.
  • Minimum 5 years of progressive experience in design.
  • Technical expertise in visual awareness, latest design trends, prototyping tools like Figma, and basic knowledge of typography, composition, motion design, and responsive design.
  • Strong interpersonal, judgment, time management skills, and ability to work independently.
  • Excellent command of English; knowledge of other UN languages is a plus.
