The Position

At Telespazio Germany, we believe that artificial intelligence (AI) is a future cornerstone of modern spacecraft operations. Join us in supporting our key customer, ESOC, on their journey to enhance spacecraft operations efficiency by integrating AI applications into their workflows, e.g. for automation of decision- making assistance. We are seeking a skilled ML (Ops) Engineer with experience in the space industry.

Responsibilities/Duties

As an ML (Ops) Engineer at Telespazio Germany, you'll build the critical infrastructure to deploy, monitor, and maintain machine learning systems for our customers and for internal projects – with a focus on our key customer ESA/ESOC. You'll establish robust pipelines for model deployment, version control, and operational monitoring while also contributing to ML model development and software integration. Your primary focus will be ensuring reliable transition of models to mission-critical environments, working closely with software developers and spacecraft operators to bridge the gap between innovation and operational systems that meet space industry standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Build and maintain ML pipelines for reliable deployment in spacecraft operations or similar environments;
  • Maintain and extend monitoring, versioning, and testing frameworks to ensure ML model reliability and performance;
  • Collaborate with spacecraft operators to translate operational requirements into technical tasks;
  • Establish infrastructure for continuous integration and deployment of ML solutions across mission systems;
  • Develop AI solutions to be deployed in the domain of space mission development and operations.

Qualification/Experience

To thrive in this role, you should possess:

  • A University degree/PhD in Computer Engineering, Data Science, or a related discipline.
  • Experience with CI/CD and containerization tools such as Git, Docker, or similar;
  • Experience with Kubernetes;
  • Experience with frameworks like Kubeflow, ML Flow, Flyte
  • Familiarity with AI software development tools and methodologies, including ML Ops and DevOps.
  • Proficiency in coding and scripting languages such as Python, C++, or Java.
  • Comfortable working in a client-facing role.
  • Strong interpersonal skills for building and maintaining relationships with colleagues, clients, and partners.
  • Proficiency in English, both in speech and writing.
  • In addition to the essential skills, we value candidates with:
  • Experience working within the Space Industry;
  • Experience with the ESA AInabler platform;
  • A broad understanding of machine learning and artificial intelligence concepts and their practical application (e.g. LLMs or Anomaly Detection).
