Job Description: Microsoft Senior Data Center Technician (DCT)

As a Microsoft Senior Data Center Technician (DCT), you will demonstrate expertise in standard processes and procedures for preparing, installing, diagnosing, troubleshooting, replacing, and decommissioning equipment. You will also have a holistic understanding of the functions and interactions between network and server equipment. Your role includes providing input for process improvements and guiding other technicians.

Microsoft’s Cloud Operations & Innovation (CO+I) powers our cloud services. As a CO+I DCT, you will play a key role in delivering core infrastructure and foundational technologies for services like Bing, Office 365, Xbox, OneDrive, and Azure. Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent, with basic knowledge of computer hardware and components, and experience supporting IT equipment or related technology.

Background Check Requirements:

Ability to meet security screening requirements, including passing the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire and every two years.

While not mandatory, preferred qualifications include:

  • Associate degree in computer science or related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Experience in a production, mission-critical data center environment.
  • Certifications such as CompTIA A+, Server+, Network+, Data Center Foundation Certification, Microsoft Certified Professional, among others.

Responsibilities

  • Apply advanced diagnostic and troubleshooting skills to identify issues quickly.
  • Decommission hardware following standard procedures for complex systems.
  • Delegate installation, deployment, and replacement tasks to technicians, providing guidance on setup and startup/shutdown procedures.
  • Ensure quality execution, coordinate downtime, and inform stakeholders to minimize rework.
  • Guide technicians in completing complex tasks and escalate issues as needed.
  • Verify safety and deployment standards, including grounding, labeling, and cabling.
  • Ensure security compliance during decommissioning and data destruction processes.
  • Monitor KPIs through dashboards and performance discussions.
  • Train and mentor technicians, providing on-the-job guidance.
  • Participate in safety briefings and ensure compliance with safety protocols.
  • Maintain accountability for service quality and user experience.
