We offer a stimulating atmosphere, excellent infrastructure, and the possibility to work on a highly innovative, interdisciplinary project in the scientific environment of the Institute of Experimental Biomedicine I, University Hospital, and Rudolf-Virchow-Center for top-level basic, translational, and clinical research.

Successful PhD applicants will have the opportunity to enroll in an international graduate program at the Graduate School of Life Sciences in Würzburg. The position is available immediately. Salary is based on TV-L.

Your Tasks

The PhD student will work on projects combining characterization of novel photoswitchable anticoagulants using platelet/coagulation assays, microfluidic assays, advanced imaging techniques (intravital multiphoton, super-resolution), and mouse models of thrombo-inflammatory diseases. The projects will include microscopy, genetically modified mice, cell biological, biochemical, and molecular biology approaches. The goal is to provide new insights into pathomechanisms and explore experimental targeting.

Your Profile

  • University degree (Diploma, MSc, or equivalent) in Life Sciences, such as Biology, Biochemistry, Biomedicine, Pharmacy.
  • Experience with mouse handling and in vivo and in vitro experimental techniques relevant to this field is preferable.
  • Strong interest in experimental platelet research focusing on coagulation, cardiovascular biology, and/or in vivo imaging.
  • Team player with self-initiative, creativity, and an independent, responsible work ethic.
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English and computer literacy.
