Offer Description

We are seeking a highly motivated and creative PhD candidate to join the Gilsbach lab (gilsbachlab.de) at Heidelberg University, ranking among the top three universities in Germany. The PhD position is fully funded with a competitive salary (TVL-13, 65%).

The available research projects aim to understand and develop strategies to treat heart disease. You will combine epigenetic (e.g. C&T, ChIP-seq, ATAC-seq), chromatin interaction analysis (Hi-C) and single-cell approaches to unravel regulatory mechanisms of heart function and disease, including the impact of disease-associated non-coding variants. CRISPR-based functional genomics will allow you to explore and steer the regulatory mechanisms of heart disease. These studies will take advantage of in vitro and in vivo pre-clinical models, including hiPSC-derived systems.

• MSc degree in molecular biology, epigenetics, cardiovascular science, computational biology, or a related field
• A strong interest in chromatin biology, gene regulation, and/or disease modeling
• Prior experience with genomics, bioinformatics, or CRISPR technologies is a plus, but not mandatory
