Job Description:

  • We are looking for a motivated doctoral researcher/PhD student to work in the medical field of Cystic Fibrosis in a third-party funded project on the interaction of airway commensals and their metabolites to increase the efficiency of CFTR modulators. The project will analyze effects of commensal oro-pharyngeal bacteria and derived metabolites on the therapeutic efficacy of recently introduced drugs. It involves working with primary cells, mouse models, and human biomaterial, applying a variety of biochemical, physiological, immunological, and microbiological methods.
  • This is a joint project between the groups of Prof. Dr. Alexander Dalpke (UKHD, Heidelberg) and Prof. Dr. Marcus Mall (Charité, Berlin). The doctoral candidate is expected to work for up to one year in Berlin, followed by a second year in Heidelberg.
  • Master’s degree in microbiology, biology, or related disciplines.
  • Curious, enthusiastic, highly motivated, intuitive, willing to learn new techniques, and willing to take initiative to drive the project forward.
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a team.
  • Fluent in spoken and written English.
  • Willing to work with experimental mouse models.
  • Willing to spend up to one year at Charité-Universitätsmedizin Berlin to learn some techniques.
