Your field of work includes:

The Berlin Fire Brigade is looking for a committed individual to take on the role of Head of Technical Information Security. The department defines all technical processes for monitoring, evaluation and reporting. In addition, the department supports technical processes for the detection, forensics and management of cyber security incidents. Support is provided in the form of advice and awareness-raising for other specialist areas, the creation of guidelines and specifications, the establishment and support of monitoring systems, and the classification, processing and follow-up of incidents.

Your tasks will include:

  • Supporting the department head in planning, coordinating and monitoring the deployment of staff and work in the assigned department
  • Further developing and adapting the technical security architecture of the Berlin Fire Service Data Network (BFDN) by working on specifications and guidelines, communicating with the specialist departments and checking implementation
  • Supporting a SIEM project with the aim of consolidating information from different security systems (e.g. mail gateway, firewall, endpoint, NAC) into a holistic cyber security picture of the authority. This includes collaboration in the selection and preparation of the information to be processed as well as the creation and processing of security reports.
  • Leading the processing of complex security events in collaboration with IT operations, for example in the event of targeted attacks or system failures. This includes classifying incidents, identifying the players involved and ongoing communication with stakeholders.
  • Carrying out sensitive data protection-related interventions and evaluations in the area of security systems and forensics, such as reading and evaluating data carriers and data connections to reconstruct and process incidents

  • A completed university degree (Bachelor's or comparable university degree) in the field of computer science, information technology or in a degree program with a comparable content focus

or

  • a completed university education (bachelor's degree or comparable university degree) in related STEM fields

or

  • a relevant completed vocational training and corresponding several years of activity of at least 3 years in the required IT area

for the experience required to perform the tasks:

  • At least three years of professional experience in IT operations, especially in the field of IT networks or system administration
  • Experience in routing and setting up IP-based networks
  • Experience with IT operating processes, e.g. according to ITIL v4 or COBIT
  • Experience in the operation of IT security components such as firewalls
  • Specialist knowledge of English is required
  • Knowledge in the field of prevention, detection or analysis of attacks
  • Advanced knowledge of technical features as well as countermeasures for state-led and commercial cyberattacks
  • Knowledge of technical guidelines and specifications from the BSI
  • Knowledge of cybersecurity frameworks and standards (e.g. MITRE ATT&CK, MITRE D3FEND, NIST Cybersecurity Framework, Cyber Kill Chain)
