Postdoctoral Researcher in Geography / History / Cultural Studies (f/m/d) (100 % TV-L E13)

We are a young, innovative university in the heart of the Ruhr metropolis, committed to research, teaching, diversity, and educational equality.

The KWI – Institute for Advanced Studies in the Humanities in Essen at University Duisburg-Essen (UDE) is seeking a postdoctoral researcher to join our interdisciplinary ERC Synergy project "The Cultures of the Cryosphere." The project explores the cultural and spatial dynamics of artificial cooling technologies from the Cold War to the present, including mapping cold chains, space cooling, and IT infrastructures.

Your responsibilities include:

  • Conducting research and publishing on the spatial and historical aspects of artificial cooling and climate control.
  • Developing and co-editing a digital atlas of cooling technologies.
  • Participating in international research trips and scientific dissemination.
  • Contributing to project administration and data management.

Your profile:

  • PhD in geography, history, cultural studies, or related fields.
  • Interest or experience in the cultural dimensions of technology and digital mapping.
  • Experience with geo-visualization and mapping tools is desirable.
  • Excellent English skills; knowledge of German and Spanish is a plus.
