Job Description:

Paul Wurth S.A. is an international engineering company based in Luxembourg, with 500 employees. We are a global leader in ironmaking technologies, focusing on innovation and sustainability. As part of the SMS group, we serve the metals industry worldwide.

We are actively working on CO2 reduction in ironmaking, including the EASyMelt project, which involves plasma torch technology.

We are seeking a PhD – Plasma Torch Simulation Engineer (m/f/d).

Your main responsibilities include designing and simulating plasma torches for industrial applications, collaborating with engineers and researchers, and developing models using software like OpenFOAM or Code_saturne.

  • Run OpenFOAM Solver for various scenarios
  • Estimate thermodynamic and transport properties of plasma
  • Develop numerical models for plasma torches
  • Collaborate with experimental teams to validate and improve models

Qualifications:

  • PhD or Master’s in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Physics, or related field
  • Strong understanding of numerical methods and plasma physics
  • Experience with OpenFOAM or similar software
  • Programming skills in C++ or Python
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Teamwork ability
  • Proficiency in English; French or German is an advantage
