Responsibilities

• Envision and implement crawlers/API-clients that aggregate complex, graphical data into comprehensible descriptions of social networks.
• Architect efficient and reusable backend systems that drive complex web applications.
• Collaborate with Product Designers, Product Managers, and Software Engineers to deliver compelling products.
• Identify and resolve performance and scalability issues.
• Plan and coordinate data modeling & feature releases.
• Design and implement UI features that visualize complex social network data, in collaboration with product and design teams.
• Implement features and user interfaces for Borg products like Hive.
• Architect efficient and reusable front-end systems for complex web applications.
• Collaborate with teams to deliver engaging user-facing products.
• Identify and resolve performance and scalability issues.
• Coordinate data modeling and feature releases.
• Mentor junior full-stack engineers.

Profil

• 5+ years experience in developing high-availability, high-throughput backend systems.
• 5+ years experience in designing and implementing complex web user flows.
• Proficiency in JavaScript, including asynchronous programming, closures, and types.
• Experience with Python, including asynchronous programming, meta-programming, types, and scientific Python.
• Deep expertise in at least one major web framework such as FastAPI, Flask, Django, aioHTTP, or Pyramid.
• Experience building scalable APIs and optimizing complex SQL queries (using PostgreSQL).
• Experience with E2E testing tools like Cypress.
• Ability to leverage cloud-native technologies for building robust, high-availability platforms.
• Growth mindset, balancing long-term engineering goals with immediate development needs.
• Strong collaborative and communication skills.
• Enjoy writing documentation and understanding its value.

Great to Have

• BS/MS/Ph.D. in Computer Science or related fields.
• Interest in sociology, anthropology, evolutionary psychology, game theory, or related disciplines.
• Interest in design and user experience.
• Familiarity with online cultures, subcultures, memes, etc.
• Active user of social media platforms or online communities.
• Experience with serverless applications on AWS Lambda or similar systems.

Work Setup

We are a fully remote team, based worldwide, with hubs in Austin, TX, and Berlin, Germany. We conduct daily standups and work asynchronously, using the best tools for remote collaboration. Berlin-based employees can work from our office in Mitte.

We hire based on ability, not credentials. Our hiring process tests your problem-solving skills directly related to the role. We value the effort put into application questions, which are key to filtering candidates. Successful candidates will undergo interviews, possibly a take-home task, and a trial project before an offer, all within 2-3 weeks.
