The Opportunity

Our recently established Customer Area Near Patient Care within Roche Diagnostics Solutions combines our expertise in Point-of-Care and Diabetes Care portfolios. Our goal is to enable accurate diagnoses across healthcare settings—from home, pharmacy, and doctor's office to emergency rooms and hospitals—to support a sustainable healthcare system.

In Near Patient Care, we are responsible for manufacturing continuous glucose monitoring (CGM), blood glucose monitoring (BGM), insulin delivery systems (IDS), and Point-of-Care (POC) products. Our device portfolio creates more independence, confidence, and safety for patients through advanced technology. Together, we want to do now what patients need next!

The Role

The Head of Manufacturing Science and Technology (MSAT) (d/f/m) is end-to-end accountable for the on-time, in-full, and cost-effective implementation of all projects related to products, manufacturing processes, and assets in NPC Operations Mannheim & Indianapolis. The role also involves developing and implementing a long-term manufacturing technology strategy.

Your Key Responsibilities

Leadership and People Management

  • Lead a global team of 200 engineers and scientists across Mannheim, Indianapolis, and Rotkreuz.
  • Manage strategic workforce development and skill enhancement.
  • Develop and implement a Manufacturing Technology Strategy aligned with Global Operations Strategy for current and future projects.
  • Formulate, align, and execute a global long-term Asset Strategy and Implementation Masterplan, including maintenance concepts for all manufacturing areas.
  • Strategically develop a high-performing organization capable of mastering future manufacturing technologies to maximize value for patients and Roche.
  • Build an ecosystem with Roche internal capabilities and external partners to achieve long-term strategic goals.

Project Management

  • Manage a complex multi-project environment (Design Transfer, Product Care, Manufacturing Technology, Assets) in collaboration with global and local teams.
  • Plan and execute R&D project deliverables with cross-functional teams.

Supplier and Process Improvement

  • Responsible for strategic supplier development with Global Procurement.
  • Manage technical suppliers for components and assembly.
  • Drive process and product improvements to enhance cost, supply, quality, and compliance.
  • Oversee process validation for equipment and processes.
  • Manage outsourcing, insourcing, and transfer of intermediates and finished goods.

Who You Are

We seek a passionate and decisive VACC People Leader with energy, passion, courage, vision, and drive to be at the forefront of the industry, delivering benefits for patients, our people, and our business.

Moreover, you bring

  • Over 10 years of experience in Healthcare, Food, or related industries, with more than 8 years in people management, leading other leaders.
  • At least 4 years of relevant Engineering or Project/Portfolio Management experience in a regulated industry or cGMP environment. PMP certification is a plus.
  • Proven ability to build trustful, effective relationships in complex, international environments.
  • Strategic thinking skills to translate strategies into actionable plans.
  • Strong background in international supplier and partner management, ensuring seamless collaboration and supply chain optimization.
  • Deep knowledge of investment project assessment, including financial and risk management, with a focus on continuous improvement and cost reduction.
  • Extensive expertise in startup and validation of manufacturing equipment, utility, and process systems, along with documentation and testing requirements.
  • Understanding of processes, equipment, automation, validation, and technical aspects.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills to influence stakeholders at all levels.

Locations

Mannheim. The position requires approximately 30% travel, primarily to Indianapolis and external partners.
