The AH-64 Aircraft Mechanic AM-2 (Armament/Electrical Specialty) troubleshoots malfunctions in aircraft structure, landing gear, flight surfaces and controls, anti-icing, pneudraulic, engines, auxiliary power unit, and ventilation and heating systems.
Responsibilities include:
- Performing the full range of military tactical aircraft maintenance as an AH-64D/E mechanic, including assembly and modification on Army and DoD cross-service aircraft, their major assemblies, sub-assemblies, components, and related systems.
- Installing, connecting, and adjusting systems such as fuel, heat, lubrication, hydraulic, engine, and transmission; installing and aligning fuselage parts; balancing and installing tail rotor assemblies; rigging flight control systems.
- Incorporating authorized modifications and changes.
- Conducting operational checks of hydraulic and fuel systems using external power sources and ground equipment.
- Inspecting and troubleshooting malfunctions, disassembling to identify issues, and repairing or replacing defective parts.
- Using hand tools, measuring devices, and diagnostic equipment properly.
- Determining whether faults can be corrected through repair or replacement, and interpreting technical data.
- Leading lower-graded mechanics in assembly, modification, and checkout processes, coordinating with related trades.
- Preparing maintenance forms and records.
Minimum requirements include:
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- At least five (5) years of recent aircraft maintenance experience.
- FAA A&P or FCC License (Elements 1 and 3) required.
- For those without A&P, FCC License with required experience and on the AH-64 MDS.
- US Passport for travel to Germany.
- Ability to obtain/maintain Security Clearance (NAC-I T1) and facility credentials; US Citizenship required.
Germany-specific requirements include:
- TESA approval with 5 years of aviation maintenance experience.
- Willingness to travel as needed.
Knowledge & Skills:
- Strong communication skills.
- Capability to troubleshoot entire aircraft systems.
- Knowledge of electrical, electronic, mechanical systems, and quality control procedures.
- Understanding of military maintenance, modification, and repair processes.
Physical requirements include climbing, standing, lifting up to 20 pounds frequently, and up to 50 pounds occasionally. Must be deployable worldwide and able to work in various positions.
