A great opportunity to lead European Trade Compliance for a dynamic, multi-$bn global instrumentation & technology company that protects water quality around the world.

This role is suitable for an experienced regional or global Trade Compliance Manager who has worked in large, complex MNC organizations and is seeking to develop their career in a challenging and meaningful environment.

The Opportunity

Based remotely anywhere in Germany and reporting to the Sr. Director, Global Transportation, Logistics & Trade Compliance, the Trade Compliance Manager will oversee European Trade Compliance and serve as the organization's Export Control Officer.

With significant import of components and export of products, Hach’s Berlin manufacturing facility plays a crucial role in ensuring timely delivery of high-quality products worldwide. The Trade Compliance Manager will lead a small team and act as a Subject Matter Expert, providing guidance and answering questions for the business.

Key Responsibilities :

  1. Lead and manage the Trade Compliance department, ensuring technical and personnel excellence.
  2. Serve as the company's Export Control Officer, taking personal responsibility for compliance.
  3. Handle applications for export licenses (dual use) and provide information on the goods list.
  4. Ensure adherence to German export control laws and the PIC Agreement (Rotterdam Agreement).
  5. Oversee compliance with US export control laws and monitor EU and US sanctions and embargoes.
  6. Maintain up-to-date customs authorizations (authorized exporter, approved exporter, deferred payment, and AEO-F).
  7. Act as the main contact for customs during foreign trade and import audits.
  8. Process and review import declarations, including tax assessments.
  9. Possess in-depth knowledge of customs tariffs for goods classification and VAT assessment within the EU.
  10. Perform origin calculations for large projects.
  11. Develop work instructions for Trade Compliance processes.
  12. Use key performance indicators (daily management) to maintain and improve Trade Compliance processes.
  13. Foster employee engagement and development through regular P4G discussions.
  14. Conduct internal training on customs-related export control topics, including AEO standards.

The Ideal Candidate :

  1. Regional/global Trade Compliance Manager with experience in high-volume import/export environments within MNCs.
  2. Extensive knowledge of import/export laws (EU and US) and customs, with personnel management experience.
  3. A leader skilled in developing teams and managing risk pragmatically.
  4. Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills (fluent English & advanced German).
  5. Regular participation in seminars on customs and export/import control topics.
