Principle Engineer for Planning of New Power System Solutions

Huawei's Nuremberg Research Center is responsible for Network Energy Advanced Technology Research, Architecture Evolution Design, and Strategic Technology Planning.

The Power Conversion Technology Laboratory within Huawei's Nuremberg Research Center focuses on Advanced Digital Power Technology Research, Architecture Evolution Design, and Strategic Technology Planning. It plays a crucial role in Huawei's Digital Power business, designing and developing power converters and control systems for applications such as PV Solar & Battery Energy Storage, Data Centers, Electric Vehicles, and Embedded Power Supplies.

We are looking for a

Principal Engineer for Planning of New Power System Solutions (m/f/d)

Your mission

• Analyze trends in new power system development to shape technology visions, platforms, and industry directions. Establish and guide long-term technical strategies for the product portfolio.
• Integrate insights from emerging technologies like BESS, FACTS, and customer pain points to develop innovative and market-leading power system solutions.
• Collaborate in Joint-Innovation activities with internal and external partners.
• Conduct simulations, power system studies, and support field testing within joint projects.
• Participate actively in academic or industrial standardization organizations, holding key technical roles to advance industry standards.

Your areas of expertise

• Deep understanding of the evolution of power system solutions and architectures such as BESS, FACTS, HVDC, MVDC. Ability to anticipate customer needs and address operational challenges.
• Proficiency in power systems, photovoltaics, energy storage, or EV charging infrastructure. Proven track record in innovation areas like grid-forming inverters, grid simulation, virtual power plants, and energy storage.
• Vision to identify industry trends, integrate leading technologies, and apply cross-domain thinking to develop competitive products. Hands-on experience in renewable energy integration.
• Successful implementation of key technologies.

Solid experience in bringing critical technologies and projects to fruition, with the ability to address customer pain points and influence executive decisions.

• Experience in power systems control for power electronic inverters is preferred.
• Structured work approach, initiative, creativity, teamwork, strong communication skills, motivation, enthusiasm, and quality focus.
• Fluent in English, both written and spoken.
