At Amazon, we're working to be the most customer-centric company on earth. To get there, we need exceptionally talented, bright, and driven people. If you'd like to help us build the place to find and buy anything online, this is your chance to make history.

One focus area of the Amazon Workplace Health & Safety (WHS) mission is to provide tools, resources, and environments that support safe, efficient, and healthy behaviors and encourage employees to proactively manage their health and wellbeing. To support this focus area, Amazon is seeking an experienced Safety Engineer to join the Safety Engineering team supporting International Operations.

Key job responsibilities

The individual will play a critical role in ensuring high standards of safety are integrated into systems and processes across new and legacy Fulfillment Centers, Sort Centers, and Delivery Stations outside of North America. The successful candidate will validate vendor-proposed technical safety solutions and collaborate with internal engineering and maintenance teams to ensure compliance with safety standards for equipment. This role requires an experienced Safety-Risk Manager with detailed knowledge of EU machinery safety regulations and engineering controls to mitigate risks to operators and maintainers. Knowledge of robotics and automated conveyor systems is also essential.

Responsibilities include:

  1. Supporting a wide range of projects, including the Capital Approval Review process, and liaising with teams such as Engineering, Reliability, Maintenance, Operations, Procurement, and Real Estate.
  2. Defining and updating technical standards for machinery safety and process controls, working with EU and North American experts.
  3. Supporting procurement, design, and launch processes to ensure safety standards are met on the first attempt.
  4. Providing expert input to change projects and acting as a machinery safety expert for the EU Health and Safety team.
  5. Generating technical updates and reports on project status and risks.
  6. Performing machinery inspections, risk assessments, and mentoring team members.
  7. Developing safety solutions that meet Amazon's standards for safety, risk reduction, and operational excellence.
  8. Training personnel on safety policies and standards.
  9. Innovating industry practices for safer machinery and inspection techniques.
  10. Influencing change management processes within international operations.

Qualifications include a bachelor's degree or equivalent, extensive experience in Safety Engineering risk management focused on EU standards, and knowledge of relevant safety regulations. Preferred qualifications include PMP certification, lean and Six Sigma experience, a master's degree, and certifications like CMSE or FS Engineer.
