This role is based in Oelde, Germany. Amazon is seeking Site Process Engineers to work in the EU Process Engineering (EU PE) team. The Site Process Engineer is an onsite position. The EU PE team is a group of operational leaders driving process stabilization, standardization, and continuous improvement for the EU Customer Fulfilment Network.
This team is essential to establish best-in-class process performance across all different direct and indirect processes, accelerate implementation of technological advancements, and strengthen the technical acumen and process knowledge for operational leaders across the Fulfillment Center (FC) network. EU PE ensures operations teams are equipped with the functional expertise to successfully deliver expected gains from technology advances and network-wide process improvements.
The team drives process control and performance shifts to minimize variation between shifts, buildings, and regions, aiming for strong operational performance. They work closely with Process System Engineering (PSE), ACES PM, Central Ops, launch teams, operations engineering, and RME teams to improve input metrics for each process path by prioritizing and channeling resources.
The Site Process Engineer collaborates with the FC Senior Leadership Team and maintains high engagement with EU PE functions. The role involves deploying initiatives, building networks, driving compliance, and initiating EU-wide improvement activities. Demonstrating ownership, understanding initiatives in detail, and influencing to achieve tangible productivity and efficiency gains are key responsibilities.
Key job responsibilities
- Back to Basics (B2B) initiatives: Identify top opportunities by comparing FCs, focusing on bottom 50% processes, and implementing improvement plans with local Operations Management, using standard templates. Oversee FC improvement programs, analyze process performance, review open Action Plans weekly, and collaborate with central PE functions and regional peers for benchmarking.
- Continuous Improvement: Drive network best practice implementation, leverage local initiatives, and share successful practices across EU. Capture and scale FC innovations through a standard process, and ensure major projects are included in the annual Operating Plan.
- Deployment of EU initiatives: Ensure timely and compliant execution of all assigned EU network initiatives. Support test and pilot phases to prevent delays, and review project deployment across EU FCs.
- Partnership with FC Operations: Participate in daily Gemba walks, organize weekly leadership meetings, and support relationship-building with Site Leaders and Senior Ops. Assist with process-related ad hoc tasks, contributing less than 10% of work time.
- Project Support: Lead or support EU projects, potentially expanding scope and coordinating multiple FCs, to enhance project management skills and stakeholder engagement.
- Operational Support: Be prepared to support site management operations as needed, especially in Q4.
- Travel: Ability to travel regionally within the responsibility area (estimated 0-10%).
Minimum qualifications
- Degree from an accredited institution
- Proficiency in English and German (Common European Framework C1)
- Experience in Operations as Area Manager or similar
- High technical proficiency in at least one Fulfillment process path (e.g., Quriosity silver/gold certification)
Preferred qualifications
- Strong experience with Lean, Six Sigma, and Kaizen methodologies
- Knowledge of change management and continuous improvement practices
- Excellent communication and detail orientation
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment
