The department of Experimental Materials Mechanics in the Institute of Hydrogen Technology at Helmholtz-Zentrum Hereon, is seeking a highly motivated PhD student to join our DFG funded cutting-edge research project, which is focused on developing high-performance magnesium (Mg) alloys. The position is initially limited to 36 months (starting as soon as possible).

Your profile

  • a master’s degree in Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field
  • strong background in metallurgy, slip/twinning mechanisms, and mechanical behaviour of metallic materials is essential
  • experience with Mg alloys, micro-compression and SEM-based techniques will be an asset
  • excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently and collaboratively
