The University of Wuppertal is a modern, dynamic, and research-oriented campus university with an interdisciplinary profile in research and teaching. The University of Wuppertal invites applications for a position in “Research on primary education” (legal basis: W 2 LBesG NRW). The position will be based in the Institute of Educational Research in the School of Education and is to be filled by April 1, 2024.

About the Institute

The Institute for Educational Research focuses on empirical school-related research on educational and special needs education issues across different levels and institutions of the educational system. It is responsible for educational science components in teacher education programs, including special education.

Candidate Profile

We seek a candidate whose expertise lies in empirical research related to primary education and who can represent educational sciences in teacher training courses, especially in elementary school teacher programs. The candidate should address current challenges in primary education within the institutional and societal context.

Prerequisites

  • Relevant empirical research and publication record (e.g., peer-reviewed journal articles)
  • Research experience in areas such as learning and instruction in primary schools or individual student support in heterogeneous classrooms
  • Experience in acquiring third-party funding
  • International orientation
  • Proven teaching experience in primary education (psychology/pedagogy)

Future Expectations

  • Teaching in teacher training programs, especially for primary school teachers
  • Collaboration in teaching and research with other departments within the Institute and with subject-related departments of other schools
  • Participation in the development of bachelor's and master's degree programs in teacher training
  • Development of innovative learning and instruction concepts in teacher education
  • Securing third-party funding

Requirements

The candidate must demonstrate pedagogical suitability through relevant experience or outstanding performance during the appointment process, supported by a doctorate. Additional scientific achievements will be evaluated during the appointment process. The requirements for a first professorship include experience as a junior professor, habilitation, employment as a research assistant, or equivalent scientific positions.

The successful candidate is expected to actively support academic self-governance and contribute to gender equality initiatives.
